A Fulfilling Dinner
“We have a reservation. Table for two. Names are Amye and Lyla.” The two moths were guided towards the center to the restaurant, both kindly sat down at a nicely laid table. The place had only recently opened, and getting a reservation was a difficult task. Amye had been refreshing the reservations page over and over, hoping to get a table for the two, and luckily was able to get a last minute reservation for the two of them. The decor was fanciful, white linens and stained wood adorned the entire place. Just by the looks, you could tell that they not only took quality as a high regard, but had the prices to reflect such a choice. As the two were sat down, they were promptly handed menus, as well as had their water glasses filled. “Thank you,” Amya said to the waiter as they walked off. “This place is so nice! Aren’t you glad that I was able to get us in here?” Lyla was too engrossed in the menu to fully respond. The prices were much higher than places the two of them normally went
That’s it? That’s all you want for your birthday? For me to eat this gum? No, it’s fine, it's just… Well, when you said you had a surprise for me it thought it was something a bit more… No, I’ll still chew it. I said that I’d do this for your birthday, and I’m sticking by it. Shut up and give it here. Not the biggest gum chewer usually, but here I go… You want me to describe the taste? Sure, I guess… It tastes like… Tomato soup? What kind of weirdo makes tomato soup gum? It even feels a little warm. Whatever, the flavors going away pretty quickly. Pretty cheap gum for it to lose its flavor that fast. Wait… Does the flavor… Change? Because this definitely tastes different. It tastes like beef. Not like ground beef, closer to a steak. Maybe a roast? I can almost taste some baked potato as well. Not what I would personally choose, but hey, this is for you. And it’s fading again. The look on your face says that there’s more to come. Oh… Oh wow! This one’s intense. It’s really strong
“Seven weeks. The doctor said I gotta wear this stupid thing for SEVEN WEEKS!” The robin leaned her head back in frustration, opening her beak. As if on cue, a brownish tail, holding a spoonful of ice cream, deposited it into her beak. “It could be worse Chelsea, you could have broken both your wings.” The monkey sat next to her scooped some ice cream into her own mouth, dripping a bit on her orange shirt as she talked. “Or even worse, you have broken your neck!” “I think I would’ve preferred my neck at this point Michelle. That way there would at least be a reason for me to be useless.” She held her right arm up to the air, looking at her broken wing, upset at herself more than anything. She had been practicing for the flying Olympics, wanting to have her best shot at landing on the team, but took a turn too sharply, breaking her wing pretty severely. She had just gotten out of the hospital earlier that day, deciding to confine in her friend. Her and the monkey had been best
Lyla sat there, alone in the park, staring at the fizzing liquid inside the corked bottle. The night was still young, the lights around the park had just turned on, their low hum adding their song to the quiet night’s symphony. ‘Would it work?’ she thought to herself, ‘I could always try it another day…’ The moth had debated on drinking the mystery liquid for days now. Although she had wings, they were more for show than actual use. She yearned to fly, to be able to float around in the sky, carefree, like moths should do, but she just couldn’t seem to get herself off the ground. A few months back, while looking for ways to fly, she stumbled upon a shady website, one priding itself in allowing anyone to fly. Intrigued, she had looked deeper into the place, ending up purchasing a potion that would allow the user to fly. It had arrived last week and she had been wanting to drink it each day, never mustering the courage to do so. She held up the note again, just as she had done many
